Blockchains are clocks. While often framed as stores of value, they first function as systems that delineate time. Bitcoin replaces centralized authority by producing an indisputable chronological record. Ordinals, as inscriptions tied to individual sats, align more closely with this original function than most NFTs. Their order is absolute, immutable, and permanent. Art history, too, is obsessed with chronology—who did what first, and when. Blockchain inscriptions offer a kind of perfect provenance, but that clarity comes at a cost. Technology exists to solve problems; art often exists to pose them. This exhibition asks: how can artists use the blockchain—a tool of order—to explore unruly, generative ideas? In the face of technological solutionism, artists are invited to treat time not as fixed, but as a material—subjective, malleable, and rich with possibility.
